Meet the Founder Shem’Kara
Shem’Kara is a survivor, advocate, and dedicated professional with a passion for helping women and families rebuild their lives. As the founder of the Fresh Start Grant Fund, No Shade Survivor Scholarship Fund, and other community-based initiatives, she created these programs to provide financial relief, hope, and
opportunity to those who have faced hardship and are determined to move forward.
As a survivor of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and personal adversity, Shem’Kara understands firsthand the pain and fear that can come with starting over. After enduring abuse that left her with lasting injuries and daily physical
limitations, she made the difficult decision to leave California and rebuild her life elsewhere, carrying the fear that her ex-partner could one day resurface. Despite living with chronic pain, trauma, and uncertainty, she refused to let her
circumstances define her.
Through faith, resilience, and determination, Shem’Kara rebuilt her life and
created a successful career while continuing her journey of healing. Her
experiences inspired her to create safe spaces and financial resources for women and families who need support, stability, and a second chance.
Professionally, Shem’Kara is an accomplished leader with over 14 years of
experience in operations, contract management, and strategic planning in the
federal government.
Shem’Kara’s mission is simple: to turn pain into purpose. Through scholarships, grants, and community outreach, she hopes to empower women, uplift families, and create lasting change—one life at a time.

A Reflection of You...
Tanya’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of how generational trauma and unhealthy relationship patterns can shape a person’s life. Raised in instability and abandonment, Tanya grew up craving love and security, often becoming deeply attached in relationships. As an adult, her fear of being alone led her back to a toxic situation that turned deadly.
Walking in My Fear...
Tessa spent her life afraid of the very thing that would ultimately take her from this world. From a young age, she voiced her fear that leaving the wrong man could cost her life. As an adult, when she finally found the courage to walk away from a failing marriage, her worst fear became reality.
